7 Bedroom Plants for Better Sleep

Bedroom is considered the most private and safest place to rest and relax to rejuvenate our minds and body. But have we ever given thought about the chemicals that are present around our room, like trichloroethylene which is commonly present in paint, varnishes, adhesives used for furniture, benzene, formaldehyde is found in paper towels, facial tissues, cleaning agents, ammonia, xylene, and other such chemicals which redistribute into air and affects the quality of sleep? Most of us do not realize the importance of air quality. The toxins emitted from chemicals in our room polluted our indoor air adversely, to help purify the air your sweet home needs addition of plants, whether indoors or outdoors.

Plants are many but some of the bed plants like lavender or jasmine are being induced in pillow covers, bed toppers, bedsheets to make you sleep well in these stressful times to be more productive for your working days.

Benefits of bedroom plants

Bedroom plant benefit you in many ways. They add color and breathe life in your room with the release of subtle, sweet, natural scents which can beat the fragrance of any artificial air fresheners. Plants just respire like human beings but in slower process and in reverse order. Plants absorb cardon dioxide and give off oxygen.

Plants benefits humans and their surroundings in many ways. A bedroom might not be a natural place to keep plants but they can do more than just making your shelves look greener and brighter. They help to enhance your creativity, boost up mood, reduce stress and anxiety levels, naturally purify air, relax your mind to increase productivity, let you sleep well, and much more. Plants absorb all the harmful gases released form chemicals through the pores on leaves, filter and purify air around you.

Bedroom plants

A plant in a bedroom can get you a better sleep. When you get a restful sleep, you feel more energized and focused during the day. Indoor plants give you energy, improves your mood, relax your mind. Installing bed plants improve sleep quality because they clean and freshen air, soothe, and reduce anxiety. Aromatherapy is also good in improving sleep, so scented plants are good option for placing them around your bed, in room windows, or for decorating in niches or shelves.

Few plants are listed below which can help to improve your sleep time and quality.

  • Jasmine

Jasmine plant bears small white flowers. These flowers are known for their sweet smell. Jasmine fragrances and oils are induced in perfumes and candles. Jasmine has a pleasant aroma which is great for refreshing room and getting a restful sleep. Jasmine scent has calming effect, thus reduces anxiety levels and let you be more productive for working days. Jasmine plants are easy to keep and look after.

  • Lavender

Lavender plant is most renowned for creating a relaxing environment and induction of better sleep. Smell of lavender plants have shown reduces stress levels. Studies shows, smelling lavender before going to bed help you sleep deep. Another study reveals lavender oil while bathing babies help them to calm and drift to deeper sleep. They are perfect to add color to your room, as well as they help in reducing blood pressure, stress levels, and heart rates. They like warmth and sunlight, place on sunny windowsill or shelf.

Lavender has gained so popularity for giving deeper sleeps that now bedding companies are using them in their products to help consumers sleep well.

  • Snake plant

Snake plant are also known as viper’s bowstring hemp and mother-in-law’s tongue. They are a natural air purifier. NASA clean air study claimed these plants for purifying formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, toluene, and trichloroethylene from the air. These are low-maintenance plants that converts cardon dioxide into oxygen during day as well as in night. Tall snake plants are good to fill your empty spots in room. They benefit aesthetically as well as health wise.

  • Aloe-vera

Aloe-vera is commonly found in many homes do their health benefits. They do wonders for skin, hair, weight loss and what not. But did you know these are also listed as beneficial plant list for improving sleeping quality? This medical plant releases oxygen at night which helps to purify air and help in easy breathing while sleeping. These are great for purifying benzene and formaldehyde especially. Aloe-vera is also named as succulent plant.

  • Peace Lily

Peace lily is listed as one of the great plants by NASA for purifying air. They also add up to the humidity level of room by 5%. Peace lily have beautiful white flowers which enhance indoor beauty. They are famous for neutralizing harmful gases that are floating around the house particularly benzene, formaldehyde, acetone, alcohols, trichloroethylene, and carbon monoxide.

  • Valerian

Valerian plant bloom beautiful small pink and white flowers which look beautiful around the room. They have sweet smell used to treat sleep problems like insomnia. If you are sleep deprived take a valerian petal bath or sniff the smell before going to bed, you will surely see a great difference in your sleep quality. These plants need sun for good time to perform well, keep them near sunny windows.

  • Golden Pothos

Golden pothos are also named as devil’s ivy due to their marbles heart-shaped leaves. This plant is also an air purifier. They are good for purifying carbon monoxide and formaldehyde. These help in increasing oxygen levels for better breathing. They are very low maintenance plants.

And that is not all, there are many other plants which helps you in sleeping well, some relax your body, some reduce your stress levels, others purify toxins from the air. Now its your choice to select a bedroom plant which benefits you in every way.
